I must say our weekend trip to the Ikea in Houston was much more enjoyable than our 2010 trip. One because we didn't get robbed and two because we stayed with some of the most hospitable southerns I know, the Truitt's. Around noon on Friday Drew, myself, and two other couples loaded up and headed to Houston. Nic and Becca recently bought their first house and Matt and Britt are building just like us. Drew and I have a design/decorating taste that is a little more industrial/modern than most of our friends so we weren't sure if they would enjoy Ikea as much as we would...but considering we had to rent a 6x12 Uhaul to haul all of our purchases back I'd say the trip was a success! We stayed with Nic and Matt's aunt and uncle in Houston they were so nice and so much fun to be around. You know you're around good people when they feel like your own family in a matter of minutes.
Uncle Mike was giving us all a hard time for "driving all the way to Houston for DIY Scandinavian furniture." Yes it's true Ikea garb comes in a million pieces, it's relatively cheap, and if you're not careful it will look exactly that way...like a cheap craft project. I thought I'd share some of the things in our current house that are Ikea.
Anno panel shades
Foto pendant lights
Kitchen cabinet pulls
Fintrop magnetic knife/spice rack
Numerar butcher block countertop, we used this as stair treads which my talented husband stained
Expedit shelving in our office and magnetic bulletin boards
Coffee table
Rug, couch, Maskros pendant light
Mirror, Lillangen sink, great sinks for messy boys!
Shower curtain.
Poang chairs.
Bathroom cabinet pulls
We found plenty of new items this trip, which will remain in boxes until we move into our new house! I'll have to do another Ikea post then.
Some of the same items we bought that we have now were the Foto lights, the Lillangen bathroom sinks for both of our boys' bathrooms, and butcher block for my potter's bench outside. We bought plenty of organization items for the boys' rooms. Andrew wanted a built in desk in his new room so we bought magnetic strips and storage for all of his art stuff. I also bought more funky lights for my new library. They come in white, but I'm thinking about painting mine similar to the picture below...we'll see. Can't wait to get it all into our new home!
Once a year we try to make the trek to TN (2012, 2011, 2010, 2010b, 2010c geez Andrew's grown up so fast!) since Andrew was off of school for MLK Day this year we decided to scoop him up and head to Pigeon Forge for a long weekend together. On these trips we let Andrew decide what he wants to do, so we went to the Rocky Mountain National park to play in the snow, we went to the arcade and the country candy store, we played Wii and Clue, and of course we enjoyed every minute of our time together as a family. I can't wait until my Bud-a-Roo is home for Spring Break!
As most of you know by now, Drew and I are expecting our first Baby Day-o! It came as a bit of a shock at first. While we had decided it was time to start our family we had no idea it would happen so soon after making our decision!
After Thanksgiving we flew Andrew to Meridian on the flight back I started to feel sick. I have never experienced motion sickness before not in a car, plane, or at sea. But it was really windy that day so I just chalked it up to the flight. After our flight Drew and I went to the gym as soon as I got to the car after working out I was sick to my stomach. Again I just figured it was the after effects of the bumpy flight.
The following Tuesday (exactly two months ago today) Drew was working late and I decided to stop for a steak at Big Mikes. I ordered my usual there house salad, steak, baked potato, and a glass of red wine. I took two sips of my wine and thought I was going to be sick right then and there! I paid my tab, drove across the street to the drug store and bought a single pregnancy test. I just didn't think I could be pregnant so soon after getting off the pill! When I got home Drew still wasn't home yet, so I decided to take the test without him just to see if I was being silly. Positive! I just couldn't believe it! So I went back to the drug store and bought a double pack Clearblue test. Sure enough I'm gonna be a Mommy! A few minutes later Drew came home and plopped down on the couch next to me. I gave him a hug and a kiss and start with a "So I have some life altering news to tell you." "Oh yeah what's that?" "We're having a baby!" He was about like I was at first pretty shocked it happened so fast, worried about the 8 hour flight to Hawaii (which I had already googled and I was good to go), then that grin that I love so much ran across his face. "We're having a baby?!" "Yes sir you're gonna be a Daddy...again." "Well that didn't take no time at all! I was hoping for at least a few months of trying really hard." TMI? Sorry! ;)
I wanted to see my doctor before I left for Hawaii. So I made an appointment and Drew and I got to see our little creation for the first time! I was six weeks and one day. It was pretty amazing, it wasn't until I saw our baby on that big screen did it all start to sink in. Holy shiz, I'm having a baby!
While in Hawaii I started noticing a few of the symptoms I read I might experience during my first trimester: morning sickness (Thank goodness for Zofran!, pregnant brain, aversion to foods I usually always eat or drink. I missed out on a few things I was looking forward to, Hawaiian sushi and mai tais! I drank a lot of pineapple juice and virgin pina colodas but I was really looking forward to a mai tai!
Andrew was the first person we told in our family. He was so excited but he was even more excited that he was the only person that knew. I hope he always remembers that. :) He wanted to call everyone he knew to tell them but we told him he had to wait until we had each of our family Christmas' and he could announce it at each one. He was definitely pumped about that. My Mom and Dad were coming in the next day and I showed him the onesies I had ordered for them. One said "I love my Maw T!" and the other said "I love my Paw Paw!" He of course wanted to be the one to give them to them. (I apologize for the laughing...I sound like my sister Paula!)
I absolutely love how excited Andrew sounds in this video!
I had put my phone down at this point but I thought it was still sweet. :)
Andrew had so much fun announcing our pregnancy at each of our families' Christmas parties. He would wait until everyone was in the same room eating, opening presents, or posing for pictures and then he would ask us, "Now?! Can i tell them now?!" Then he would take a dramatic deep breathe and yell, "I have an announcement. Everyone I have an announcement. Brooke's pregnant! That means she's having a baby!!" Ha Ha! It was so funny and something I can't wait to share with his brother or sister.
On Christmas morning my Dad took this picture for us and then we sent it to all of our friends. Wishing them all a Merry Christmas from the FOUR of us! It was so much fun getting the calls and text of congratulations. Our friends are the best!
So here is Baby Day at 12 weeks. We went in for a nuchal fold screening for Downs Syndrome, but Baby Day just would not cooperate. All he/she wanted to do is turn flips and look straight into the scan. So while a special needs baby wouldn't change how we feel as parents we would have like to been a little prepared, but Baby Day had other things in mind. :)
Our friend Margot thinks he/she is fist pumping here. :)
So is it a boy or a girl?!?!
Both sides of our families are hoping for a girl. The Day side doesn't have a single granddaughter so the odds of have a bouncing baby boy are defenitely stacked. My Mom and Andrew both think it's a girl. Drew says he just wants healthy at this point. And I don't have much of a "feeling" either way yet. We definitely can't wait to find out.
Me on being pregnant: 14 weeks
My first "symptom" was that I started feeling really dumb. As in the things that would come out of my mouth, sounded like an idiot blonde had taken over my body, aka Pregnant Brain. Once I was looking right and Drew when he asked me something and I was just like "I know you said something but I have no idea what it was."
Morning sickness. I don't know why they call is "morning" sickness...I was sick all day everyday. Thankfully my doctor wrote me a script for Zofran and that seems to help. So far everything I've read says most people only experience it during their 1st trimester...and some lucky candidates are sick for the whole duration! I found that if I waited to eat until hunger had set in I was running the risk of being sick, so I started making sure I had snacks between meals. I still get nauseous in the afternoons some days but the "all day" sickness seems to have subsided.
Palmer's Cocoa Butter is my new best friend. While I don't really have a baby bump yet I'm determined to keep the stretch marks at bay. I keep waiting to wake up one morning with a bump! I'll probably start taking pictures of my belly this week to keep track of how much it changes.
Cravings. So far I haven't had any really weird cravings. Like I said earlier it's more of an aversion to things I used to eat all the time. I don't seem to like coffee :(, meat, unless it's ground, fried, or seafood I still like seafood thank God. I've been eating a lot of potatoes and salads that consist of iceberg, cheese, sunflower seeds, and croutons with ranch AND Italian dressing mixed. A little odd I guess. I've always loved dill pickles, but I'm eating them more often now.
The first trimester was no picnic and I definitely was beginning to wonder what in the world I had gotten myself into. But things seem to be getting better and my energy level seems to be a little better. I'm still sleeping as much as possible but then again my body is making a baby over here so I guess a little extra sleep is understandable.
I can't wait to find out what we're having. We decided not to even decuss names until we know the gender. So I'm looking forward to that!
I'll keep you posted on Baby Day, Mommy Day, and Daddy Day as the weeks go on. Please keep us in your prayers. <3>3>
So I know, I know it's January 27th and I'm just now posting about Christmas and New Years. If it make you feel any better I just took down my nativity scene and the decorations in Andrew's room...no? Well it makes me feel better, so there!
I'll start with our picture we used for our Christmas cards this year. Thanks again to Julie at Be Still Photography. Who knew there were really FIVE of us in the picture, more on that later. :)
The Christmas season was a whirlwind this year! Mostly because of our trip to Hawaii, Drew and I just couldn't get into the Christmas spirit while thinking about the beach. I didn't put up a single Christmas decoration nor did we do any Christmas shopping until after our trip. Needless to say, we were SOOO busy getting everything finished in time for the big day!
Waking up on Christmas morning with my favorite little boy is the best!
I love his present opening faces!
Someone was a very good boy this year :)
A fourwheeler from Santa!
Hugs for Paw Paw & Maw T
Jax was a good boy too!
We have had so much fun playing Clue, thanks Aunt Erin!
Loving on his favorite doggie!
Christmas with the Gautreau's
Christmas Eve at Mama Day's
My husband made sure I had some bubbly to ring in the New Year!
Bonfire at the Day's
We are so excited to see what 2013 has in store for us!
