After Thanksgiving we flew Andrew to Meridian on the flight back I started to feel sick. I have never experienced motion sickness before not in a car, plane, or at sea. But it was really windy that day so I just chalked it up to the flight. After our flight Drew and I went to the gym as soon as I got to the car after working out I was sick to my stomach. Again I just figured it was the after effects of the bumpy flight.
The following Tuesday (exactly two months ago today) Drew was working late and I decided to stop for a steak at Big Mikes. I ordered my usual there house salad, steak, baked potato, and a glass of red wine. I took two sips of my wine and thought I was going to be sick right then and there! I paid my tab, drove across the street to the drug store and bought a single pregnancy test. I just didn't think I could be pregnant so soon after getting off the pill! When I got home Drew still wasn't home yet, so I decided to take the test without him just to see if I was being silly. Positive! I just couldn't believe it! So I went back to the drug store and bought a double pack Clearblue test. Sure enough I'm gonna be a Mommy! A few minutes later Drew came home and plopped down on the couch next to me. I gave him a hug and a kiss and start with a "So I have some life altering news to tell you." "Oh yeah what's that?" "We're having a baby!" He was about like I was at first pretty shocked it happened so fast, worried about the 8 hour flight to Hawaii (which I had already googled and I was good to go), then that grin that I love so much ran across his face. "We're having a baby?!" "Yes sir you're gonna be a Daddy...again." "Well that didn't take no time at all! I was hoping for at least a few months of trying really hard." TMI? Sorry! ;)
I wanted to see my doctor before I left for Hawaii. So I made an appointment and Drew and I got to see our little creation for the first time! I was six weeks and one day. It was pretty amazing, it wasn't until I saw our baby on that big screen did it all start to sink in. Holy shiz, I'm having a baby!
While in Hawaii I started noticing a few of the symptoms I read I might experience during my first trimester: morning sickness (Thank goodness for Zofran!, pregnant brain, aversion to foods I usually always eat or drink. I missed out on a few things I was looking forward to, Hawaiian sushi and mai tais! I drank a lot of pineapple juice and virgin pina colodas but I was really looking forward to a mai tai!
Andrew was the first person we told in our family. He was so excited but he was even more excited that he was the only person that knew. I hope he always remembers that. :) He wanted to call everyone he knew to tell them but we told him he had to wait until we had each of our family Christmas' and he could announce it at each one. He was definitely pumped about that. My Mom and Dad were coming in the next day and I showed him the onesies I had ordered for them. One said "I love my Maw T!" and the other said "I love my Paw Paw!" He of course wanted to be the one to give them to them. (I apologize for the laughing...I sound like my sister Paula!)
I absolutely love how excited Andrew sounds in this video!
I had put my phone down at this point but I thought it was still sweet. :)
Andrew had so much fun announcing our pregnancy at each of our families' Christmas parties. He would wait until everyone was in the same room eating, opening presents, or posing for pictures and then he would ask us, "Now?! Can i tell them now?!" Then he would take a dramatic deep breathe and yell, "I have an announcement. Everyone I have an announcement. Brooke's pregnant! That means she's having a baby!!" Ha Ha! It was so funny and something I can't wait to share with his brother or sister.
On Christmas morning my Dad took this picture for us and then we sent it to all of our friends. Wishing them all a Merry Christmas from the FOUR of us! It was so much fun getting the calls and text of congratulations. Our friends are the best!
So here is Baby Day at 12 weeks. We went in for a nuchal fold screening for Downs Syndrome, but Baby Day just would not cooperate. All he/she wanted to do is turn flips and look straight into the scan. So while a special needs baby wouldn't change how we feel as parents we would have like to been a little prepared, but Baby Day had other things in mind. :)
Our friend Margot thinks he/she is fist pumping here. :)
So is it a boy or a girl?!?!
Both sides of our families are hoping for a girl. The Day side doesn't have a single granddaughter so the odds of have a bouncing baby boy are defenitely stacked. My Mom and Andrew both think it's a girl. Drew says he just wants healthy at this point. And I don't have much of a "feeling" either way yet. We definitely can't wait to find out.
Me on being pregnant: 14 weeks
- My first "symptom" was that I started feeling really dumb. As in the things that would come out of my mouth, sounded like an idiot blonde had taken over my body, aka Pregnant Brain. Once I was looking right and Drew when he asked me something and I was just like "I know you said something but I have no idea what it was."
- Morning sickness. I don't know why they call is "morning" sickness...I was sick all day everyday. Thankfully my doctor wrote me a script for Zofran and that seems to help. So far everything I've read says most people only experience it during their 1st trimester...and some lucky candidates are sick for the whole duration! I found that if I waited to eat until hunger had set in I was running the risk of being sick, so I started making sure I had snacks between meals. I still get nauseous in the afternoons some days but the "all day" sickness seems to have subsided.
- Palmer's Cocoa Butter is my new best friend. While I don't really have a baby bump yet I'm determined to keep the stretch marks at bay. I keep waiting to wake up one morning with a bump! I'll probably start taking pictures of my belly this week to keep track of how much it changes.
- Cravings. So far I haven't had any really weird cravings. Like I said earlier it's more of an aversion to things I used to eat all the time. I don't seem to like coffee :(, meat, unless it's ground, fried, or seafood I still like seafood thank God. I've been eating a lot of potatoes and salads that consist of iceberg, cheese, sunflower seeds, and croutons with ranch AND Italian dressing mixed. A little odd I guess. I've always loved dill pickles, but I'm eating them more often now.
- The first trimester was no picnic and I definitely was beginning to wonder what in the world I had gotten myself into. But things seem to be getting better and my energy level seems to be a little better. I'm still sleeping as much as possible but then again my body is making a baby over here so I guess a little extra sleep is understandable.
- I can't wait to find out what we're having. We decided not to even decuss names until we know the gender. So I'm looking forward to that!
I'll keep you posted on Baby Day, Mommy Day, and Daddy Day as the weeks go on. Please keep us in your prayers. <3>3>
I'm not sure which was my favorite part of the video, your mom saying "no, no, no" or Andrew saying "yep, yep, yep."
ReplyDeleteI know E! I'm so glad we caught it on video. :)
